When I asked around if anyone had been to Sacramento before, most people answered "Yes, I drove through when I came from somewhere else". For most inhabitants of the San Francisco bay area Sacramento is just a pit stop before reaching home and honestly I'm surprised about that!
While I was in Orangevale for the
Hollywood Ending concert I decided (like a couple of times before) to turn my trip in a little expedition. To be honest I can't remember the last time I felt that hot due to 40
°C/105°F, no clouds and no breeze... Little tip, drinking Rockstar while walking through the heat is not a good idea... Stay with water.
So Friday before the concert I walked around in the historic part of Folsom and Saturday I saved some hours before driving home to explore downtown. Since I've never been to Sacramento before I googled "What's in downtown Sacramento?" and jumped on a train.
It might have been because it was Saturday morning but I can't remember the last time I was in a city that peaceful. Everything was quite and there were not a lot of people around.
I visited the Capitol Park at the California State Capitol Museum and the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
I spend over an hour just sitting on a bench soaking in the peaceful atmosphere without headphones and music (that's so untypical for me!) and I think I hadn't been that much at peace in a long time.
The trip when short was absolutely worth it.
I guess the fact that I hadn't had a day off in over four weeks just added to the perfect relaxation. Sacramento is definitely worth visiting and I would come back to see some more.
The trip home took me forever to transfer in San Francisco though. Due to Pride that weekend and another successful Giants game there were insanely many people around. When I made it home I was pleased to find out that I took some nice pics of the concert and Sacramento.
What a trip!!
